Seutter, Matthäus

(1678 - 1757)

Born in Augsburg, was apprenticed to Johann Homann in 1697. Seutter's maps, reflecting Homann's influence, feature heavy black engraving and large ornate cartouches teeming with flora, figures, fauna, and other decorative devices. He became imperial geographer to Emperor Charles VI
